Print, Mount and Frame Sizing
If you are buying a print only, you are going to need to mount this in a frame of your choice. The information here will help you make the right choices
ISO Paper Sizes
Trying to imagine the size of your delivered print and how this relates to your room can be tricky. Hopefully, this guide will help you better understand the relationship between the sizes that we sell on the creative camera.
Firstly, it’s worth saying that the images created by modern cameras such as we use, do not perfectly match ISO sized paper. There is a tiny difference between the two formats. However, the human eye cannot generally see the differences. Here’s an example using A4 as a guide.
Choosing the right Mat, Frame and Border Size
Paper size of course is only half of the story, unless of course you are dropping your print straight into a frame. If you are planning however to mount your print in a mat first, and then mount the mat into the frame, here is some guidance to help you make some decisions.
| Paper Size | Page Dimensions | Border (each side) | Mat Window Opening | Frame Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A4 | 21 × 29.7 cm | 2–3 cm | 17 × 25.7 cm | 40 × 50 cm |
| A3 | 29.7 × 42 cm | 2–4 cm | 25.7 × 38 cm | 50 × 70 cm |
| A2 | 42 × 59.4 cm | 2–5 cm | 38 × 55 cm | 60 × 80 cm |
Example
For an A2 print, the typical mat (also known as a mount), frame and border sizes are as follows:
Mount Size: A common mount size for an A2 print is approximately 52 x 66 cm (20.5 x 26 inches), which adds 5 to 10 cm to each side of the print.
Frame Size: The frame should be at least 52 x 66 cm to accommodate the mount and the print dimensions. A popular frame size is 60 x 80 cm (23.6 x 31.5 inches), which allows for a larger border.
Border Size: A standard border size is 2-5 cm (0.8-2 inches) on each side of the print, providing a sleek and modern look.
