One of the most enjoyable parts of our role here at The Creative Camera is to give a shout out to people who help the creative community to grow. One such person is Cath Siswick who I had the pleasure of meeting today at a watercolour art course here in Torquay.
Cath Siswick is a contemporary British artist celebrated for her expressive portraiture and her thoughtful connection to the landscapes of Devon and Wiltshire. Working primarily in oils and graphite, she blends realism with a painterly, intuitive style, capturing not only the likeness of her subjects but the emotion and individuality that sit beneath the surface. Her fascination with human expression is a defining thread throughout her work, giving each portrait a quiet depth and presence.
Based between rural Wiltshire and the Devon coast, Cath draws inspiration from both regions. Her Ground Collection pays tribute to the rugged paths and tranquil shores of Devon, exploring the relationship between nature and wellbeing through atmospheric, grounding compositions.
Alongside her studio practice, Cath is a passionate educator. With over 20 years’ experience teaching art, textiles, and graphics, she now runs the Cath Siswick Art School, offering workshops, courses, and creative retreats designed to help people of all abilities explore art with confidence and joy. Her teaching ethos is simple: creativity should be accessible, nurturing, and free from judgement.
Whether creating intimate portraits or guiding others on their artistic journey, Cath brings warmth, skill, and a genuine love of creativity to everything she does.
