Title: The Colours of Liverpool – Liver Building from the Museum of Liverpool  Medium: Photography / Fine Art Print   Artist: Charles David

The Colours of Liverpool captures the soul of a city shaped by history, music, maritime heritage, and the unmistakable silhouette of the Liver Building. This artwork distils the essence of Liverpool’s waterfront — a place where culture, architecture, and human stories converge in a single moment of light and movement.

The composition blends soft abstraction with documentary realism: the iconic Liver Building stands distant yet commanding, framed by the geometric lines of modern glass and steel. A lone figure moves through the scene, caught between shadow and illumination, grounding the image in the everyday rhythm of Liverpool life. The interplay of reflections, textures, and shifting light creates a layered, painterly atmosphere that feels both contemporary and timeless.

This print celebrates Liverpool not as a postcard, but as a living, breathing city — full of character, contrast, and quiet drama.

Back Story – From the Artist

“We spent many hours on the dockside, absorbing the history, the culture, the heritage. The Museum is amazing — a treasure trove of what makes Liverpool great. It was busy, people everywhere. I was using an old Panasonic E500 with a 14–55mm lens, perfect for creating emotive images.

The shot was one of those lucky moments: a man moving against the light, the Liver Building in the distance, the abstract window and reflections forming a natural frame. It all aligned for a split second — a fleeting masterpiece you only see once.”

This piece sits at the heart of our Urban and Abstract art collections, echoing the atmospheric depth and narrative style that define The Creative Camera’s signature approach.
